I just had one of the best weekends of my life. My band (41 Gorgeous Blocks,) got to play with my all-time favorite band "The Mr. T Experience." We drove to Austin for the first show, it had been about five years since I'd seen them before so I was really excited to see them again. The next day we got up and drove back home and had another show with them in Fort Worth that night, I have to say "that was the best show I have ever attended." The crowd was great, even requesting songs while we were playing (which is happening more frequently.) My mom and aunt were in attendance as well as Matt's parents and Kim's mom Ann, much fun was had.
The following day we decided to make the drive to Oklahoma city where MTX was playing, it was worth the drive those guys are some of the nicest, smartest people I've ever met. I have to say Bobby J. the bass player was my favorite, very friendly guy and we bonded fairly quickly. They said " If you're ever in California to let us know and we'll set up a show," so hopefully that will be happening this summer. With that I am signing off, I hope you enjoy reading this Robert, more to come.

Matt M.

Drums, Shots, and Shows

Howdy! Much has happened since the last time I posted, (geez it's almost been a month). Hopefully I can train myself to post more regularly on here, I'm not a very diciplined person. Anyways I finally got my new drums, I had ordered them a couple months back and actually were origionally supposed to get here by today. My dad asked me if I wanted to go to Guitar Center with him so he could get some stuff for his guitar or something or other, we get there and the guy who had placed my order said that my drums had arrived. The only problem is that I didn't have the other half of the money that I needed to get them home, so I asked my father if he would spot me the mula temporarily and of course like the good father he is gave me the thumbs up. I was pretty ectatic because I'd never had a really nice set of drums before and I've been playing for almost ten years so I thought I deserved these.
Here is where the fun begins, I told the guy that I wanted blue "broken glass" I guess we had a misunderstanding because I recieved the actual color "broken glass" wich in my mind I thought was the most beautiful color of them all. SO in context I'm glad that I got the wrong color. I got to play my first show with them last thursday night with my dads band "The Last Chance Band" the day I got five needles shoved in my back (by the way all isn't well with my back still). Anyways I love the way they sounded, but last sunday night we played in Austin for the first time at a very metal club called "The Backroom" that place is really nice though and the soundguy Mike likes to give me bearhugs, great guy. All went well for the trip and I'm happy with my drums, I'm going to shut up now. I know it's been a while since I've updated my blogger page, I really have no excuse being that I've been out of work for the past month due to back complications. Nothing really exciting has happened at all, we've played a couple of shows since I've been out and I sat at home for the other part of it. I'ts been great though, "not having to work that is" I've had time to concentrate on my drum playing, I put in one of my favorite albums of all time "Alcatraz" by "The Mr. T. Experience" ( sorry there should have been a link there, my bad) anyways, it keeps my chops up.

Let's see, what else? Oh yeah, I have to get six needles in my back this thursday, it's going to suck a little, but I'll be asleep through it all. I have this phobia of needles, I guess it goes back to when I would get stung by bees a lot as a child. Anyways, I'll be incapacited the whole day, I'm not looking foward to it at all. Oh, and the worse part about it, I'll have to be completely naked, how degrading. So I'll leave on that positive note, "Have fun reading Mr. Riggle"

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://drumhead.blogspot.com/2003_07_01_archive.html#105954540317852504' title='Yes, I'm still alive!!! Sunday night our friend Josh Venable (well I say he is our friend, but that is just because weve met so many times) anyway Josh has his own show called "The Adventure Club" its a nice little show that gives different bands thier three minutes of fame ( or however long thier song is.) I tried to remember to listen, all day long I reminded myslef to tune in......... of course I forgot to listen, but luckly my good friend and band member Matt, recorded it. Josh had some wonderful things to say about our band, it was nice to hear that.

Here is something that I learned tonight........
I learned that the drummer "meaning myself" is the most important member of the band. I found that quite odd. Our singer Matt, ordered this instructional cd that gives you good ways to promote and get people to come to your shows (I'll search for the link later) I was suprised to hear that I'm more important that I thought I was, you've heard all the drummer jokes, "who is the guy who hangs out with the band?" "the drummer" ha ha, I love that one, anyways, I leared that I'm supposed to watch the other band members during the show and make sure that they aren't looking at thier feet, and that they are always entertaining the crowd.
Don't worry, I'm not going to get a big head from it or anything like that, I just feel that I should share in case some drummer with low self esteem stumbles across my page. Ive said enough, get the cd's, it's called "Tim Sweeney's Guide to Successfully Playing Live" I suggest you order it.
...........later

The wierdest thing happened tonight...
My longtime friend Aaron, and his wife came over tonight to hang out. Aaron and I decided to play some video games for a little bit. Little did we know, his wife had jogged home, so we searched the house and neighborhood for her with no luck. Finally we figued she had gone home somehow, so he left to see if she was at thier apartment. A little while later he calls me up telling me that she had infact jogged home, and she was mad at him for some reason, ( you know how women are.)
So anyways I think its time for me to watch some "Naked Gun 2 1/2" by myself.
